Gautrain

Gautrain is Africa’s first world-class, modern rapid rail and bus services for Gauteng, a province regarded as the economic heartland of South Africa. It is an 80-kilometre (50 mi) mass rapid transit railway system in Gauteng Province, South Africa, which links Johannesburg, Pretoria, and OR Tambo International Airport. It was built to relieve the traffic congestion in the Johannesburg-Pretoria traffic corridor and offer commutes a viable alternative to road transport, as Johannesburg has limited public transport infrastructure. The project was completed with the opening on 07 June 2012 of the final section between Rosebank and Johannesburg Park Station.

Shosholoza Meyl

Shosholoza Meyl is a division of the Passenger Rail Agency of South Africa that operates long-distance passenger rail services. It operates various train routes across South Africa, carrying approximately 4 million passengers annually. The Shosholoza Meyl is a passenger train that runs between all major cities. An economy-class ticket will buy you a reclining seat with sufficient legroom on routes that include 11 major cities across the country, but be prepared for the unconventional. The energy on the train is always electrifying especially during summer (December to February) as there are people from different parts of the country travelling.

Metrorail

Metrorail is an operator of commuter rail services in the major urban areas of South Africa. It is a division of the Passenger Rail Agency of South Africa (PRASA), a state-owned enterprise which is responsible for most passenger rail services in South Africa. The Metrorail Gauteng commuter rail system connects central Johannesburg to Soweto, Pretoria, and most of the satellite towns along the Witwatersrand. The railways transport huge numbers of commuter’s every day. However, the Metrorail infrastructure was built in Johannesburg infancy and covers only the older areas in the city south.
