HERITAGE DAY 24th SEPTEMBER 2012 (10h00 to 16H00)

 
 

 

The following events have been planned for this day:

 

  1. The WITS 90 TREASURES exhibition is being heldat the Wits Art Museum. Entrance from Jorissen Street. No entrance fee. Contact– Anitra Nettleton Tel 011 717 1376 or Rochelle Keene Tel 011 717 2081
  2.  

  3. ORIGINS CENTRE - Over and above the entiremuseum being open for viewing on Heritage Day, the temporary exhibition, A JustSociety, will be open.  This is anexhibition of art by the artist Madelaine Georgette, described as a visualexploration of the findings of the Truth & Reconcilliation Commission. Between12 and 1pm, Natalie Knight, curator of A Just Society, will be leading awalkabout of this exhibition. Entrance from Yale Road South. No entrance fee.Contact - Brian Mogaki Tel 011 717 4700

  5. The Planetarium invites Heritage Day visitors todrop in and explore the Planetarium sky. Pick up a starchart and learn how to use it.  Short tours will be conducted continuously duringthe day. Entrance from Yale Road South. Contact: www.planetarium.co.za

  7. Voice of Wits will be providing a lunchtimemusic concert at the Library lawns/piazza (weather determines location). Theevent will feature several up and coming artists and run between 12-2pm. (fullline-up and blurb to be sent this week Friday).  Contact -  Mike Smurthwaite 7174736

  9. The Adler Museum of Medicine will be open forthe day. The collection consists of over 40 000 objects depicting the historyof medicine, dentistry and pharmacy through the ages. Entrance from York Road,Parktown. Contact - Rochelle Keene Tel 011 717 2081

  11. The James Kitching Gallery will be open for theday. This museum hosts the rich fossil reserves of the country. Entrance fromYale Road South. Contact Ian McKay Tel 011 717 6665

  13. The Life Science Museum and Diversity Centrewill open for the day. Come view the natural biodiversity of the Witwatersrand.Contact – Donald Mcullum – Tel 011 7176464

  15. Tours of the campus will be conducted at 10H00,12H00 and 14H00. If you would like to go on one of the tours, please meet infront of the Great Hall 15 minutes prior to the start of the tour.
  16.  

  17. The Wits International Office will conduct aDrumming session at the Amphitheatre at the Swimming Pool  at 14H30 to 16H00.
