Countdown to Christmas in Joburg


We all know it’s coming… the big December shop which is arriving in a few short weeks! Fortunately, there are some incredible spots in Johannesburg that will make you forget all about the shopping rush.

At the places and markets listed below, you will find beautiful and unique Christmas gifts, food for holiday trips and parties, toys for the children and all sorts of other items to make the holiday time extra fun. Some of them even have great entertainment for the whole family:
The Linden Christmas Market

This Christmas market has locally crafted Christmas gifts, organic skin care products, vintage designer clothing, kiddies ware, gourmet food and craft beer. Enjoy live band music, Christmas carols and capture the moments with photo booth photographers. Their X-Mas Edition is on the 2nd of December, and there will be over 130 stalls to give you a head start on your Christmas shopping.
Christmas Village, Monte Casino

From 29 November t 3 December, Monte Casino’s Outdoor Piazza will be transformed into a magical European-style Christmas market. With over 50 stalls to buy unique gifts, decorations and edible treats at, you will be spoiled for choice. They will also have five outdoor movies on their big screen! The Christmas Village at Monte Casino will be an enchanting festive experience for the whole family!
Melrose Arch Christmas Market

With over 70 mind-blowing handpicked exhibitors, the Melrose Night Market is an eagerly awaited programme filled with Christmas Market magic. Magicians, caricature artists, street performers, photos with Santa and of course, good food served by singing waiters. Check out this great market on 30 November and 1 December from 10 am to 3 pm.
Clearwater Mall, Roodepoort

Yes, Clearwater Mall is a mall, and no, you won’t be able to escape the holiday shopping rush here, but if you can brave the crowds, then you simply must be at the mall on 24 November 2017, because that day is Black Friday. Clearwater Mall will be having loads of specials and promotions on the day, and parking will be free. And from 9 December to 24 December, there are loads of activities including crafts, special performances and visits from some special characters!

Bryanston Organic Moonlight Markets

From 21 November to 19 December, the Bryanston Organic Market will host Moonlight Markets. Explore their range of handcrafted Christmas gifts and decorations and enjoy the wide variety of delicious and nutritious snacks, meals and desserts on offer. You can even enjoy supper under the stars to the accompaniment of great music! The markets take place every Tuesday from 5 to 9 pm. See you there!
Fourways Farmers Market, Fourways

With more than 100 stalls, live music performances and lots of space to walk around or sit down, this market has truly earned its popularity. They are open every Sunday from 9 am to 4 pm. Get your gourmet food and drinks, artisanal handmade crafts, designer clothes, jewellery, beard oils, sunglasses, watches, leather products and much more. They will also be having a Christmas Night Market on 9 and 16 December 2017, between 4 to 10 pm with specially selected vendors for exciting Christmas shopping.

Crafters Fair, Emperors Palace

From 12 December to 23 December from 9 am to 9 pm every day, the Crafters Fair will be taking place at The Red Roman Shed at Emperors Palace! Visitors can expect lots of exhibitors at this fun and exciting crafting event. You’ll find everything you need for your crafting needs, from scrapbooking goodies, jewellery and toys to decor items, gifts and much more. There will also be live entertainment, and the Garden of Lights will also be there to keep the spirits high!

Christmas Carols and Market, Walter Sisulu National Botanical Garden

On 2 and 3 December, Walter Sisulu National Botanical Garden will be filled with singing and shopping! Tickets start at R35, and you can sing Christmas Carols with various artists. There will also be delicious food and loads of other fun things to buy. The event starts at 8 am; be sure to come on time!
