Becoming, an exhibition by residency artist, Ashua Imran (Singapore), unfolds around an exploration of outdoor mural installations and text-based paintings. Through his current research, Imran explores the transformative potential of text to establish an interplay of words to form koan-like phases.
The exhibition consists of Imran’s well-known rope paintings transformed into a giant scale mural and a series of text-based paintings with pseudonyms. Becoming exhibits the changes Imran is facing in his practice through his experience of life in Johannesburg, which he identifies as the opposite side of the spectrum of life in his hometown, Singapore.
