JOHANNEBSURG ZOO CELEBRATES MANDELA DAY: 18 JULY 2010
On Sunday 18 July the Johannesburg Zoo plans to celebrate Mandela day with the rest of South Africa. The Zoo is often contacted by a variety of people throughout the year for volunteer work and we accommodate high school pupils and adults. They are involved with behavior enrichment projects – making animal toys and gym equipment for the animals to play with. Other volunteer work consists of cleaning, planting and education projects.
On Sunday 18 July we will have a number of projects for you to participate in for 67 minutes:
- Behaviour enrichment – making articles for animals
- Horticulture – assisting in the nursery with a planting project
- Animal enclosure cleaning
- Fundraising
- Education – talking about animals to the public
Should you wish to be involved in working at the Zoo voluntary on Sunday 18 July, you need to register with Louise on louise@jhbzoo.org.za. The first 67 people will be accepted for these projects and will enter free of charge on this day. The projects will commence at 10.00 and be completed at 7 minutes after 11.00.
