2010 INANDA AFRICA CUP POLO TOURNAMANT

“The Sport of Kings”

Inanda Club, Sandton will be the setting for one of Gauteng’s most prestige Polo Tournaments, the 2010 Inanda Africa Cup, sponsored by Johnnie Walker, ABSA Wealth, Reinsurance Solutions and Linetrale Oil Supply & Trading Company.

This showcase of equestrian splendour is also anticipated to be one of the most prestigious events on Africa’s elite social calendar.  The 2010 Inanda Africa Cup is not ONLY about thoroughbreds – but promises to be a glamorous day of fashion, lifestyle and sophisticated culinary style and taste.

A premier event to be marked on this year’s Polo calendar, the Inanda Africa Cup polo tournament is taking place from Friday 30 July to Sunday 1 August 2010.  Sunday 1 August 2010 is an open day for public attendance enjoying champagne tastes and Afro-Fusion canapés!

The prestigious Inanda Africa Cup is a knock-out polo tournament playing host to African teams from north of our borders, Ghana Team, and a Nigerian Team,  ten local South African teams and the Polo Africa Development Side.

At half time “the stomping of the divots’ by hundreds of spectators, will be interrupted by the “Race of Horsepower” where The Racehorse … draws to the line alongside the sleek designs of man-made power.  When capturing stunning beauty, grace, power and prestige; nothing competes with the race between the mighty thoroughbred and the beautiful Aston Martin!

Visitors can expect to spend this exclusive day in the company of the “Créme de la Créme” of Gauteng’s social and executive circuit – setting the mood for an after party filled with a continental ambience of glamorous celebration and festivity.

Polo South Africa - Polo has been played in South Africa for over a century. Due to the number of highly trained horses needed to play the game, it has traditionally been a sport for the well-heeled, and even now there are only about 320 registered club players in the country.

The SA Polo Association has taken steps to extend the reach of the game, however, running regular junior coaching clinics, with bursaries on offer for development players.  And "polo tourism" is beginning to make its mark; with South Africa offering a number of exciting venues - and stunning value-add packages - for lovers of the game who are ready to travel.

Polo Nigeria - Nigeria is celebrating 100 years in polo, which have been highly successful with years of solid development. Polo is certainly not a declining sport and the number of teams that are participating in the centenary tournament demonstrates this.

The former captain of Lagos Polo Club says that game is erroneously referred to as a game for the rich but membership of the club cuts across all strata of society.  Captain of the Lagos Polo Club, Mr. Francis Ogboru, said that over the years, the standard of the game had improved tremendously.

Polo Ghana - Polo is growing amongst the elite; most Ghanaian Polo players participate in the UK Polo Season, and then come home for the Polo Ghana Season in September to March and enjoy Polo under the African Sun!

Development Polo- in Africa, Development Polo has made huge strides in the last five years with a number of exciting and progressive developmental initiatives, which are fashioning real societal diamonds. Today there are new local heroes in the polo world. Through the success of these individuals, the rise of young talent from our disadvantaged communities is significantly shifting the outlook of polo and bodes well for the continued growth of this incredible sport into the future.
