Joburg people make memorable hosts. Year-round, clean and
comfortable accommodation is easily found to suit your budget and
preferred taste. Around the city, rooms are mostly private and en-suite.
Most of the more expensive hotels are in the northern suburbs,
clustered around Sandton and Rosebank. Many hotels are linked
to malls and conveniently positioned for shopping and eating out.
Boutique hotels have sprung up everywhere, as have bed-and-breakfasts
from Melville to Soweto, offering a variety of experiences
from ultra-chic to homely.
Hotels tend to be quieter in December and January, and their rates
are often cheaper. Weekdays tend to be busier than weekends
so look out for weekend specials that may make a perfect gift for
spoiling a loved one.
Joburg has become a major international convention and event
venue in recent years, and venues are listed in this section. If there’s a major conference, the large hotels can be booked months
in advance.
Below we’ve given highlights, but there are too many to list them all
in a guidebook this size! For more options, please visit www.joburgtourism.com or www.tourismgrading.co.za, or request a copy of the grading
council’s The Star Guide at the Joburg Tourism Company.
